We aren't quite sure if last year was actually better than this year, or we've just grown accustomed to the pandemic way of life. Either way, we aren't too upset that 2021 is almost done, and we're about to usher in 2022.

Certainly, the covid-19 pandemic has been a real party pooper, with the many restrictions imposed on New Year's Eve events and celebrations. But, luckily for us, we are still finding ways to bring back the cheer in the City of Roses.

New Year's Eve Sobriety Powwow
The Northwest's Native American Rehabilitation Association (NARA) presents this event to you. It's the biggest New Year's Eve party taking place in Portland and a true favorite for many locals. This Annual Sobriety Powwow 2022 will be held virtually, and thousands of Portland residents and visitors are expected to attend. This family-friendly alcohol-free event is all about closing the year with dances, drums, and songs.
O-Shogatsu, Japanese New Year
Be part of the Portland O-Shogatsu, the Japanese New Year celebrations. O-Shogatsu means 'standard month', the first month of the year, January. According to Japanese tradition, they believe that you have to set a good precedent on New Year's Eve so that you bring good fortunes in the year ahead.
People aim to leave behind all the ill-feeling and bad happenings with the old year and open a fresh chapter of life in the New Year. It happens on New Year's Day 1st January and the 9th day of the year's first month. You can attend the "Mochitsuki" New Year Festival in Portland for some good time with your Japanese buddies. The plenty of ways to celebrate New Year's Eve in Portland. The 62nd annual Portland Boat Show is one of a kind event and a must-attend for many locals. Held between12th-16th of January, the event features various boating activities and a boat expo all in the same venue. Thousands of boat buyers have the opportunity to shop and compare fishing boats, wakeboards, yachts, kayaks, boating electronics, marine canvas, sport fishers, boat towers, cruisers, boat trailers, and much more.

The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Show
Taking place at the Embassy Suites by Hilton hotel in downtown Portland, you can catch the largest interactive comedy murder mystery dinner show in North America. A 3-course dining experience and beverages are all included in a fantastic night of laughter as you solve a challenging crime mystery. You can heighten the thrill by upgrading your ticket so that an unsuspecting member of your party is a prime suspect. This event runs from Dec. 4, 2021 – Feb. 14, 2022. Champagne Ball
Since its inception in 1990, the Champagne Ball has garnered a reputation as one of the largest cocktail parties in the country. About 40,000 guests attend this event, and unlike other NYE parties, this one does not have long lines and crowded dance floors. There are 18 bars spread throughout the event venue, ensuring there is never a long line for a drink.
